In September, Hyder Graphics and friends showed their support for a local family and cancer research by attending and donating tees for the Pace for Courage fundraiser.
The wife and 3-year-old son of an old friend of Bryce's have both battled cancer for the last year. Part way through coordinating the event, the precious little boy, Alec, lost his battle and passed away peacefully. His mother, Vananh, continues to forge ahead in her own battle with cancer. Friends, family, co-workers and volunteers rallied together to support and encourage this devastated family. 421 people in total participated. They also gathered together to raise funds for furthering cancer research and to bring awareness to the crushing effects of this disease and the importance of finding a cure. The fundraiser was a 5K walk, 10K run put together by Reason To Run. Over all it was a huge success and we were truly blessed to be apart! In continuing with the movie theme started by our helping with the costumes in the movie Coraline, we recently paired up with a local movie going hot spot to provide staff tees for a few major movie openings.

The first one; the DC Comic based movie WATCHMEN. The Bridgeport Regal Cinemas Staff sported the trademark yellow smiley face for opening weekend.

2 weeks later the Bridgeport Regal staff kept turning away offers to buy their bright blue MONSTERS VS ALIENS tees right off their backs.

The most recent was for the cult movie STAR TREK. Not only was the movie a massive hit but so were the tees. The theater looked like the Star Fleet Academy with all the red, blue and gold "Uniforms" selling tickets and serving popcorn.

The tees that got the biggest response of all was for Transformers 2. We received numerous emails from people that saw our name on the sleeves and wanted to buy them from us for their family and friends. These were definitely our favorite tees as well.

Coraline
If you have been out to see the new movie Coraline and paid any attention to the credits, you would have seen a special thanks to your favorite creative printer. Hyder Graphics!
That is right! We played a few small rolls in the production of the hit stop motion picture!
Our handiwork is on a few of the costumes like;
Coraline's orange poke dot pj's,
Other Father's orange Pj's,
Father's stripped dress shirt at the end and
the dress for Other Mother's evil true form (shown towards the very end).
We also printed the beetle wall paper in the Other World living room.

We first met the folks from Laika when we did our art gallery show in the Spring of 2007. From then on we helped them with wallpaper and costumes and had a blast doing it!
What we enjoyed even more was closing the shop early on opening day and taking our staff to see their hard work on the silver screen!

                   MEET THE STAFF
                                                        yes we have staff! :)

Justin Janes: Our screen tech has been with Hyder Graphics almost from the beginning. His proficiancy and accuracy with the screens is fantastic and makes everyone else's job easier. The few times we are able to pull him out of the screen room he helps us out at the end of the dryer, ordering supplies, mixing inks, packaging and has been learning to do some manual printing. With no screen printing background he has taken to it very well.

Michael King: With going on 2 decades of screen printing background, fantastic creative abilities and a passion for the industry we rely heavily on those valuable qualities he brings to Hyder Graphics. He spends most of his time working back and forth from the automatic press to the manuals, whatever the day or moment requires, as well some occasional design work and receiving.

Bryce Hyder: Our fearless leader! He is the master printer, the passion and brains (and the name) behind all that is Hyder Graphics. He spends a majority of his time scheduling production, doing art separations and design work, manual printing and some automatic printing. He also fills in with receiving, catching, answering phones, packaging, sales, ink mixing, screen burning and reclaiming and anything else that needs done. He is the glue of this place. The walls would fall down without him!

Alissa Hyder: Bryce's partner in crime. She spends her days taking care of the accounting, sales, customer service, order entry, reception and shipping. She also fills in for Bryce and Michael on the manual printing or helps with packaging, catching, receiving, ink mixing and occasionally screen burning/reclaiming.
Her and Bryce are a dynamic duo that have "teamwork" down to a science.

WE ARE GROWING!

It is true. We have seen tremendous growth so far this year. In fact, before our first year was up, the demand had gotten to be too great for us to handle doing everything by hand. After a mere 6 months of being in business we broke down and had to purchase our first automatic press just to keep up.
Getting it here and fully operational was quite the challenge but we finally did it and we have already ran numerous interesting prints on it.

It wasn't just the demand that sold us on an auto, it was also our strong desire to provide the best prints we possibly can. The automatic will help us not just do more in less time but we are now able to do up to 10 colors and keep each print consistent for a higher quality product over all.

We still have our manual presses that give us a little more freedom and "fudging" room to do the fun unique crazy stuff that you just can't get on an automatic press. You can see photos of some of the cool, interesting and challenging designs we've done on both manual and auto presses by visiting our Project Archives
page.

We are so excited to have seen such a positive response that the need for an auto was even there. We give enormous thanks and gratitude to all of you who have brought and referred business our way. You are the best!

Bravo!
On October 24, 2007 the Bravo! Trade Show hosted their annual trade show at the Portland Convention Center and Hyder Graphics was there. This was our first Trade show ever and certainly not the last!

Check back again to find out where else we will be showing up.

In  March 2007 we had our first gallery showing at the Genuine  Imitation Gallery in Downtown Portland. The turn out was incredible and the responses were very encouraging. If you missed the show, you can still see it by going to our Archives page to see photos of most of the peices. Or you can come by any time to see them in person. We have a lot of them displayed in our office.

The show featured some amazing and talented artists by way of our favorite textile, the tee shirt!

We took various challenging techniques that are difficult to execute on their own and combined them together using various artist's unique designs to create something original, complex and totally un-reproducible.

The featured artists were; HEDCHEQ, Rob-O, Artary Ink, Virtual Mo and our very own, Bryce Hyder. In keeping with one of our favorite subjects, we used some creative renditions of musical legends such as, John Lennon, KISS, Louie Armstrong, Chris Whitley and others.

Scroll down to see some pictures of the show.
